Doors

Practical doors, properly hung.

uPVC doors are the sensible choice for back doors, side doors, porches and French doors onto the garden. They cost less than composite, are easy to live with and, with a modern multipoint lock, secure.

They are also where poor fitting shows first. A uPVC door that has not been packed and fixed properly drops within a year or two and starts catching the frame. We fix the frame to the structure, pack behind the hinges and set the door so it closes cleanly on its seals.

We fit REHAU and VEKA door systems, and build uPVC porches with doors to match — like the porch replacement below.

Rotten timber lean-to porch with a cracked corrugated roof, failing single glazing and a collapsing base
Before After

A rotten lean-to, replaced with a porch built to last.

The original timber lean-to had rotted at the base, with soft posts, a split corrugated roof and single-glazed sashes that had stopped sealing years earlier. It was removed and replaced with a fully framed uPVC porch on a level base, insulated Hollowclad dwarf walls, a glazed upper section on two sides, a properly guttered roof falling to a downpipe, and an outward-opening door with an obscure panel. The wall behind it is now dry for the first time in years.

Questions

UPVC doors: your questions.

Should I choose uPVC or composite for a front door?

For a front door, composite is usually worth the extra — heavier, more secure and better looking up close. For back doors, porches and French doors, uPVC is a sensible, economical choice.

Do you build porches?

Yes. uPVC porches, including replacing old timber lean-tos like the one on this page.

Can you replace the door and keep the frame?

Sometimes, if the frame is sound and square. Often it is better value to replace both — we tell you which at survey.

Do you repair uPVC doors?

Yes — dropped doors, failed hinges, worn locks and misted glass. See window and door repairs.
